
Gastronomic Journey through Serbia
My journey through Serbia was a true gastronomic discovery. From north to south, this country offers exceptional culinary experiences that reflect its rich history and culture. Here is my report on the best dishes and places I visited during my trip.
Belgrade - The first stop on my journey was the capital of Serbia, Belgrade. The city that never sleeps offers a variety of options for enjoying food. I visited several traditional restaurants where I tried dishes such as ćevapi, sarma, and pihitije. Ćevapi, small minced meat rolls served with onions and flatbread, were especially delicious.
Novi Sad - After Belgrade, I headed north to Novi Sad. This city is known for its wine culture and gastronomic festivals. I tasted fish soup on the banks of the Danube, which was a real refreshment. I also enjoyed kulen, a spicy dry-cured sausage.
Zlatibor - My next destination was the mountainous region of Zlatibor. Here, I had the opportunity to try traditional kaymak and prosciutto. Kaymak, a dairy product similar to clotted cream, was perfect with fresh bread and prosciutto. The prosciutto, a dry-cured delicacy, had a rich aroma and was ideal as an appetizer.
Niš - In the south of Serbia, in Niš, I enjoyed specialties such as pljeskavica and burek. Pljeskavica, a large meat patty, was juicy and full of flavor. Burek, pastries filled with meat or cheese, were perfect for breakfast.
Užice - At the end of my journey, I visited Užice, where I tried dishes such as komplet lepinja and grilled meat. Komplet lepinja, bread with eggs and kaymak, was a true culinary experience. The grilled meat, especially lamb, was incredibly tasty.
