Cicvara (recipe)

Cicvara is a traditional Serbian dish made from cornmeal, cheese, and cream. It has a creamy consistency and rich flavor, often served hot.

Ingredients:

  • 250 g cornmeal
  • 500 ml milk
  • 100 g butter
  • 200 g cheese (feta or other soft cheese)
  • 200 ml heavy cream
  • Salt to taste

Preparation:

  1. In a large pot, bring the milk to a boil. Gradually add the cornmeal, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  2. Reduce heat and continue to cook the mixture, stirring, until thickened. This will take about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Add butter and stir thoroughly until fully melted.
  4. Add crumbled cheese and cream, continue to cook over low heat until the cheese melts and the mixture is homogeneous.
  5. Add salt to taste, if necessary.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with an additional portion of cheese or cream on top.
