Riblja Čorba

Riblja Čorba is one of the most popular dishes in Serbian cuisine, known for its rich flavor and nutritious ingredients. This warm and delicious soup is made from various types of fish, vegetables, and spices, giving it a unique aroma and texture. It is often served as an appetizer at festive lunches and dinners, but also as a main dish in everyday meals.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg of various types of fish (carp, catfish, trout)
  • 2 liters of water
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, sliced into rounds
  • 2 potatoes, diced
  • 2 tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 tablespoon of paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Bay leaf
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Clean and cut the fish into pieces. Place the fish in a large pot, add water, and bring to a boil.
  2. While the fish is cooking, heat the oil in a pan and sauté the onions until golden brown. Add the carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, and green pepper, and continue to sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Add the sautéed vegetables to the pot with the fish. Add the finely chopped garlic, paprika, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.
  4. Reduce the heat and let the soup simmer for about 45 minutes to an hour, until the fish and vegetables are fully cooked.
  5. Remove the bay leaf from the soup. Serve the soup hot, garnished with fresh parsley and accompanied by a piece of crusty bread.
